Style: English Pale Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.60%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Brewed in the tradition of an English Pale Ale, but infused with the spirit of new American craft brews, our flagship beer is drinkable, balanced, and enjoyable year-round. Additions of Goldings, Fuggle, and Cascade hops provide our pale ale with the aroma of floral hop tones, as well as imparting a refreshing, clean bitterness. Our use of caramel malt in the grain bill balances out our generous hop additions, and provides the beer with a smooth and bready backbone. Perfectly balanced, it’s our brewmaster’s favorite beer!

From the bottle, it pours a nice clear baltic amber with a robust head. In the nose, you get some malt and more hops. Easy drinking English Pale Ale!

Straight from the bottle. An excellent example of an English Pale Ale. Exceptionally easy drinking. Mild taste, not too hoppy or malty. Perfectly balanced. Toasty flavor. Nice mouth feel. I picked this up traveling through VA. Too bad it's not local to me or I'd buy it on a regular basis.

L: Poured from a bottle to a pint glass. Had a coppery color and a slightly hazy texture. There was an inch of foamy head that lasted a good amount of time. Pretty good lacing.

S: A fair aroma of malt, light hops, an earthy quality, and a bready quality.

T: Tasted of a bit of caramel (especially in the finish), a fair amount of hops, lots of malt, a biscuity / bready quality, the earthiness, and a light fruitiness. This is a decent enough flavor, centered largely on its malt content. It isn't overly dynamic, but is fairly tasty.

F: A good amount of carbonation with a dry finish. Medium-bodied.

O: English Pale Ales are typically mild beers, and this one is no exception. Nonetheless, a solid entry.

On draft in a mason jar

Medium copper colored, white head. Mild earthy hop aroma. Good balance, some biscuit malt flavor and mild hop bitterness. Thin to medium bodied.

From a bottle, pours a clear gold/amber with a creamy off-white head. Taste is a bitter hops-forward with a sweet caramel maltiness. Carbonation makes for a really drinkable, balanced, and rfreshing beer.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass.

Overall: loved it! A balanced, tasty brew.

Color: apricot amber. One-finger head with great retention and lacing.
Smell: Fresh, bright, fruity. Some sweet apple, hops, and maltiness.
Taste: A little bite and sparkle at first. Taste is hard to describe, but it is mildly hoppy, fruity, with a nice malt finish.
Feel: quite creamy and smooth.

It pours light amber color. The head I do not know I didn't pour, but left a little lace. The mouthfeel is medium. The aroma is a little butterscotch but not overwhelming. The flavour is sweet to bitter from malts and hops, a little fruit but lightly. This is an enjoyable beer that one could drink much.

I don't see any bottle date.

Appearance: It is a dark shade of amber with very good clarity. The white head is very short and has a creamy consistency. It doesn't maintain a very large head and even that short head slowly fades out to a film but it leaves nice lacing on the glass.

Aroma: Oddly the aroma reminds me of toasted pumpkin seeds. When I first started pouring it I was picking up that aroma so I leaned in closer to get a whiff and sure enough I got an even stronger aroma of pumpkin seeds. Aside from that odd reference to pumpkin seeds it also smells the way that the residue smells on the outside of hop bines. Not the actual hop itself but just the bine. It smells very inviting.

Taste: There is this very light sweet biscuit flavor underlined by a perfectly balanced hop flavor and light bitterness. The hop flavor is this earthy woody stem flavor. It is very well made.

Mouthfeel: It teeters at the lower edge of a medium body. It has a light texture on the palate that gives the beer some substance without adding too much weight. It is smooth while drinking with a slightly raspy finish from the bitterness at the end.

Overall: I don't have a freshness date code so I have no idea how old this beer is but it tastes wonderful. It has this great earthy quality to it which goes well with the bready malt flavor. This beer would be perfect to drink in the Autumn and I will have to keep that in mind as I would absolutely drink it again and I would recommend it to others.

English Pale Ale from Virginia. No big surprises here. Represents the style well, slightly hoppy with a malt aftertaste. If you like pale ales it represents the style well. Nothing amazing but a solid go to beer.

Poured from a bottle into a nonic glass. The color is a clear orange and almost light brown. The smell was nothing spectacular but not offending either. The taste was a balanced malt/hoppy which I believe is the norm for an English pale ale. Overall, I would buy this beer again.
