Graffiti HouseGraffiti House
Notes: From Civil War scrawls on the walls of Graffiti House to illicit aerosol artistry we all endeavor to leave our mark. Our Graffiti House West Coast IPA asserts its presence with a potent aroma of passion fruit, mango, guava, and citrus. The bold and juicy tropical body is a unique signature of the Mosaic hops, while Cascade hops contribute to a clean citrus finish for a flavor so singular it leaves its own indelible impression.

From the bottle. Deep amber color with a bit of foamy head. Very very malty nose for an IPA to the point of toffee sweetness. Thankfully the palate balances that maltiness with nice hops blended in. Interesting rich notes of toffee, pear and tobacco. Got a little too foamy while trying to get the feel.

L: Poured from a bottle to a pint glass. Had an dark amber color and a hazy consistency. There was a half inch of foamy head that lasted an average amount time. Pretty good lacing.

S: A serviceable aroma of hops, tropical fruit, malt, and citrus.

T: Tasted of a fair amount of tropical fruit notes (mango, passion fruit), some citrus fruit (orange), a good shot of hops, a grassy quality, and some malt as well. A solid enough flavor, but it doesn't quite come together. Some parts of it are good (the hops and fruit), but the grassy quality and malt are a little excessive.

F: A well carbonated beer with a smooth finish. Medium-bodied.

O: A slightly uneven IPA, but it has its faults. Worth a look.

On draft at coyote grill in fairfax, va. Dark amber color with long lasting off white head. Smell is citrus hops but with sweet, biscuity malts. Taste is strong on the hops but overly offset by the sweet malt on the backend. Def taste the abv in this one. Heavy mouthfeel.

I tried this at the Brick Anchor Pub in Norfolk with my boss. It poured a slightly clear orangish with white head that left a spotty lace. The scent had hints of pine and citrus. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink. The mouthfeel was medium in body with good carbonation. Overall it was a solid beer.

From the bottle, it pours amber with a nice, fluffy head, replenished with a steady stream of bubbles. Nice. Lacing as you enjoy it. A bit of hops in the nose and mouth. Yum!

On tap, pours a clear amber copper without much head. Leaves lots of spotty lacing. Smell is mostly malts, as is the taste. The hops come through mostly in a sharp bitterness in the finish, without imparting much hop flavor. Not bad, but overall there are much better IIPA's in the DC area.

An above average IPA, not really a strong fruit/citrus note. More a bitter IPA than anything else. Medium on the body with a hazy orange appearance.

Pours orange to orange red with a 1 1/2 finger light tan head that leaves decent lacing.

Aroma of tropical fruits and caramel with light citrus peel.

Again, tropical fruit with a caramel backbone, and a finish of bitter grapefruit with rind.

Medium to medium full in body, a bit sticky and drying in the end. Light carbonation. Luscious.

A great beer! Excellent aroma and flavor, and a great body.

A: A hazy orange brown in color, with a very large off white head.

S: Tropical fruit aroma, as well as citrus, namely orange peel. The citrus sweetness is accentuated by a lovely honey aroma.

T: Citrus upfront with grapefruit peel, followed by some lighter tropical fruits.. A long lingering bitterness with some sweetness.

M: Medium bodied, with slightly lower carbonation than I would have expected.

O: Overall a pretty tasty brew.. the assertive bitterness is nice, but a little more zing from the tropical flavors wouldn't be a bad thing.

One of the many beers I brought from the East Coast, this West Coast styled IPA tasted like it had some age to it. It leaned towards a resiny, sappy, and bitter flower flavor with a kiss of citrus, which on its own stillmakes it an acceptable beer to drink. One wonders what a fresh can would bring.

Pours a deep, slightly cloudy copper with a big foamy off-white head with big effervescence. The head has great retention and leaves some nice small sticky lacing. The aroma is on the milder side, but still has pleasant citrus and tropical fruit qualities to it. The taste is similar to the aroma, pleasant, but nothing unique. The body has a nice weight to it, a little heavier with just a hint of a bitter bite on the finish.

Poured a clear copper body with one finger head and lace ring down glass. A citric, piney hop aroma with hints of grapefruit and possible sweet (caramel) malt although I mostly get the hops. The beer is tastebud nuking at times but that is meant in a good way. Strong hops in the beer give off citric, piney, soapy and even grape notes with minimal touches of malts just to make sure beer doesn't go overboard. Pretty good IPA for a hop head.

Really solid ipa. West Coast approach comes through in the hop profile. There's a sturdy malt backbone here that adds a necessary balance. Nice subtle mineral quality comes through. Feels fresh.

Poured from a bottle into a nonic, the beer is a deep, vibrant, copper coloring, with a foamy, bubbly, clingy, off-white head. Aromas of roasted caramel, floral highlights, tropical fruit sweetness of mango and passion fruit, and a subtle citrus tart note. Very fruity and sweet nose. Flavors are a tropical fruit blend forward, with mango, melon, pineapple, passion fruit, guava, and a citrus blend of white grapefruit and orange rind. Very sweet, slightly puckering, and with a subtle blend of dank bitterness and piney resin to balance. Smooth, slightly effervesced, and mid-bodied, with a sugary and fruity sweet aftertaste, with a subtle linger of bitter and dry hops notes, too. The finish is smooth, light, with a lingering bitterness. Good beer.

This is almost certainly the best beer OBH has put out, supplanting my previous favorite, the Gold Cup.

Someone else pointed out mango and grapefruit, which I'll second: the citrus is brilliant, and makes Graffiti house come alive, but the brightness is balanced out with a light malt backing.

I really cannot recommend this beer highly enough. A phenomenal beer from a phenomenal brewery.

On tap:
Beer pours hazy orange (might be a tad lighter, bar isn't very well lit). Effervescence is flowing from nucleation points, producing an initially soapy head that becomes a nice thin film over the pour.

I get almost no smell from this beer. I can chalk it partially up to environment, but I stuck my nose in the glass at barely got a light grain note. After considerable warming, a nice grapefruit pith bitter note was detectable.

Taste to me has sweet grain and fleshy fruit beginning, papaya and pear, backed by some grapefruit and pine. I found it a tad thick in feel and sweeter notes. However the tropical fruit notes are there; the pine and grapefruit pith bitterness is there; I feel they need to be on a lighter backbone.

My initial thoughts were a bit lower than my final on this one. I think it's clise to being a good beer, but the feel and smell are questionable. Definitely worth another try.
