500 mL bottle poured into Belgian ale glass and let warm for an hour.
L: Jet black with 1+F tan head with good retention. Leaves a light tan cap and ring.
S: Lots of roasted malts with a chocolate character and the faintest sense of chili heat. Pretty good.
T: Roasted malts and unsweetened cocoa. Just the faintest hint of chili and/or alcohol heat on the finish, but stays well in-hand. Picks up a bit of the barrel as well, more subtly than most barrel-aged stouts. Not too sweet or bitter.
F: Surprisingly mediumish bodied, not much carbonation to speak of. This makes it frighteningly drinkable for a 10% ABV stout, but you want to go slow anyway to enjoy the flavor.
O: Call it a mini BOMB! It's not a gigantic slap in the face of flavor, but it works very well and has to be considered this brewery's best offering to date.
