The 2016 release of Dusk till Dusk is a blend of eight hand selected barrels of our most imperial stout aged in a variety of rum and bourbon barrels for 6-18 months. It offers huge aromas of plum, dried fig, cedar box, and dark cocoa. The mouthfeel is ultra silky with flavors of brown sugar, maple syrup, molasses, and dark chocolate. With just enough residual sugar to balance out the higher ABV of 13.8%, it's decadence in a glass. These are some layers that you can really sink your teeth into!

5 oz pour on tap. Pours pitch black with a small tan head. Aroma and flavor feature dark fruit (figs, dark cherry, ripe raspberries) as well as oak, vanilla, whiskey, and sweet rum. Mouthfeel is thick, sticky, and almost but not quite cloying with just enough carbonation. It's a big, boozy, sweet sipper but surprisingly drinkable for the abv. Delicious stuff.

Appearance: Pours fudge brown with a beige film that quickly fades to a collar before disappearing altogether; leggy, but no lacing

Smell: Plum, fig and caramel tones are most prominent, but the rum barrel, in particular, makes a statement, along with the molasses and cocoa; perhaps, some marshmallow fluff

Taste: Cocoa, caramel, plum and fig forward, with the Rum, vanilla, maple and molasses tones building; spice cake flavors and a hint of Rye more than Bourbon, after the swallow; the finish is rather sweet

Mouthfeel: Full bodied with low carbonation; a bit flabby

Overall: A very complex beer, with the Barleywine aspect overtaking the Imperial Stout; I liked the flavors a lot though it finished too sweet for my palate

Thanks, cdubnbird, for the opportunity

Updated: 2022 release. A different blend re bourbon and rye, but this beer just keeps knocking it out of the park ( see below re 2018 version). If anything the nose is even better. Taste and body are just perfect!

Outstanding! World class brewing and barreling. Can't speak to other vintages but this is a near perfect brew in a style you rarely see. To call this a BAIS is such an understatement. The complexity of brewing married to the barrel aging and blending is taking a big page from Lost Abbey playbook and their Deliverance strong ale.
Poured a beautiful dark pour with a decent 1" head that dissipated down to a halo. Thought it very good considering the big ABV @13%.
Nose was very present but not in your face. Wood, figs, dark brown sugar, vanilla, hint of licorice. Taste matched up with nose...perhaps a bit more rum molasses character and the chocolate stood out. While the nose was complex, the flavor kept evolving in the taste as the beer warmed as the tongue peeled back layer after layer of different flavor combinations. Noticed a touch of banana, and very slight hints of clove, anise and nutmeg came across close to finish. The mouth feel was very good and smooth though not chewy at all. It gave the beer a physical richness to complement the rich flavors. Just right.
Overall ... The barley wine and rum were more prominent but spot on complemented by the stout...gave this a BA Ole Ale take for me that I thought was one of the best beers I have had in years. Mentioned LAD above but this also brings back memories of earlier Thomas Hardy's Ale in the 80's-90's. Last one I had was a magnificent 1992 after 20 years in the bottle. Suggest JB team consider this for whatever they stored away.
Fantastic beer...and right here in Maryland!

2018 release.
Poured from a can.

High octane, but hidden well.

This is one to share.

Sweet, be ready for the rich sugar tastes that develop.

Exceptional for the style. The top Maryland beer, every year.

Canned 2/12/18
12 oz. can poured into a snifter.

Pours dark brown with a small tan head.
Nose is robust! Chocolate, molasses, coffee and plenty of dark fruit.
Big flavor. Same as the nose with some dark roasty bitterness. There is a lot going on here. It started sweet but turned less so with more tang as it warmed.
Full bodied, soft and slightly viscous.
Very nice! This exceeded my expectations.

L: nice dark black beer, but very little tan head that disappeared fast.
S: Whoa, bourbon, rum, caramel, oak, chocolate and then hints of mocha and dried fruits.
T: WOW. Excellent blend of everything from the nose. The bourbon is there but not over powering. The caramel and mocha really star.
F: super smooth and easy to drink. Medium bodied for a BA stout.
O: from the look alone this just looks like another BA stout, but the this thing is a rock-star in every other way.

I was gifted a four pack from someone I know. I love what this brewery has become and has achieved, thus far. I was very pleased with the final product of Dusk to Dusk! The beer is complexed, but very enjoyable. There are hints of chocolate, plum, caramel, slight coffee/mocha hints, tobacco, rum/bourbon and oak flavors (the Rum and Bourbon barrel selection is the star in this beer). As soon as I opened this beer, I knew it was going to be awesome! It has a pronounced aroma of Rum/Bourbon as you open it, that lingers throughout, from first poor to finish. The sweetness of of this beer is obvious, however, balanced by its complexity. Hints of chocolate/coco, roasted malt, plum, tobacco, and oak is wondeful, with the presence of booze (Rum/Bourbon barrels). Overall, I think this beer, in any blind test would prevail over the most common (mainstream) beer sImilar to this beer, like KBS or BBC. A must try beer!!

Got in a BIF from oline73. 12 ounce can into snifter, canned in 9/2016. Pours dense and opaque dark brown/black color with a small fairly dense tan head with solid retention, that reduces to a spotty lace cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the lace. Aromas of huge milk chocolate, cocoa, molasses, caramel, vanilla, brown sugar, toffee, coffee, fudge, maple syrup, rum, bourbon, raisin, fig, plum, date, tobacco, oak, and roast/toasted earthiness. Incredible aromas with fantastic complexity and balance of dark/roasted malt and rum/bourbon barrel notes; with great strength. Taste of huge milk chocolate, cocoa, molasses, caramel, vanilla, brown sugar, toffee, coffee, fudge, maple syrup, rum, bourbon, raisin, fig, plum, date, tobacco, oak, and roast/toasted earthiness. Light roast bitterness and bourbon/oak spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of milk chocolate, cocoa, molasses, caramel, vanilla, brown sugar, toffee, coffee, fudge, maple syrup, rum, bourbon, raisin, fig, plum, date, tobacco, oak, and roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roasted malt and rum/bourbon barrel flavors; with zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Minimal dryness from roast or barrel spice. Light carbonation and huge full body; with a very smooth, creamy, silky, slick, and rich mouthfeel that is insane. Alcohol is extremely well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish; and zero barrel booziness. Overall this is an insane barrel aged imperial stout! All around incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roasted malt and rum/bourbon barrel flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to sip on for the enormous ABV. Pretty much perfectly balanced between malt and barrel notes; without being boozy at all. Not as roasty as I expected for a stout, but the level of complexity is mind blowing. A really amazing offering.
