I am CANtinuing to winnow away at my backlog, especially of CANs, here at Chez Woody. The CANQuest (tm) is eternally grateful to my local, in-person trader, @tone77 for dropping off so many new & different CANs, including this one!
From the CAN: "Guava India Pale Ale".
Clearly, they are big on playing it close to the vest. No problem as I Crack!ed open the vent for a slow, gentle C-Line Glug. The foaming action was anything but slow, resulting in the quick formation of two-plus fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, tawny head with low retention, equally quick in falling, but leaving loads of lacing behind. Color was a solid-Amber (SRM = > 7, < 9) with NE-quality clarity. Nose had a subtle guava quality, borne not of hops but of fruit as an adjunct. This might be a nice variation on the theme. Mouthfeel was solidly medium. The taste was very subtle, almost perfume-y, but not quite. It definitely tasted of guava, but not in the usual in-your-face Southern Hemisphere IPA way. Instead, it was much closer to the actual fruit, which is not an overpowering taste (generally). I have cooked & cooked with guava & it is such a pleasant fruit just as this was a pleasant beer. Finish was semi-dry, but very fruit-driven, so it was underCANdable. I might enjoy it more during the Summer on a hot, humid day. YMMV.

Looks like I am the first to review this beer. Poured from a 12 oz. can. Has a cloudy beige color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is dominated by guava, surprisingly sweet. Taste is also guava, juicy, light tartness, none of the sweetness in the aroma, some malts, mild bitterness. Feels medium/full bodied in the mouth and overall is an enjoyable beer.
