Christmas Dammit exhibits a beautiful interplay between Belgian yeast character and the restrained use of winter "comfort" spices. Moderate alcoholic warmth buoys a complex malt profile replete with sensations of toffee, raisin, and cherry.

Poured from a 12 oz. can. Has an amber color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of spices, dark fruits. Taste is the same as the aroma, also some yeast and malts. Feels medium/full bodied in the mouth and overall is a quality beer worth trying.

Appearance: The clear chestnut liquid is topped by two fingers of ecru foam that fades rather quickly, leaving some squiggly lace while it lasts

Smell: Raisin, date, cherry and toffee sprinkled with nutmeg and cinnamon

Taste: Raisin, date and cherry forward with a bready character underneath; toffee builds, through the middle, with the nutmeg and cinnamon emerging after the swallow; nicely blended in the finish

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation

Overall: Nice flavors but could use a little more oomph in the spicing and mouthfeel to compare to the better Belgians

Feels weird to review a retired beer, but here goes. Thanks to my friend Dave for providing the can.

Deep amber color, good clarity. Pours smallish white head with mediocre retention.

A bit of a candy, raisin kind of sweetness in the nose. A bit of cinnamon or something similar, possibly some other "holiday" spices.

Nice base dubbel flavor with some dark fruit. Some spice notes, possibly both from the yeast and from actual spice additions. Has a nice rich malty flavor with just a hint of spice, which is nice. Very slightly drying in the finish.

Medium body and medium carbonation. Very slight alcoholic warming

I'm generally not a holiday beer person, but this one worked for me. Might help that there is a foot of snow out my front window as I review this one. A nice strong, malty beer with a hint of spice character.

The beer pours a nice white foamy head that dissipates very quickly. The beer itself is a clear dark red amber that looks nice. It isn't anything awe inspiring but it still looks good.

The smell is good. It has a nice bready Belgian yeast smell with a honey sweet malt note and a little bit of alcohol to it. There are dark fruit notes such as raisin and light Belgian spices.

The taste is good. It also has that honey sweet malt note but is equal with the Belgian spice notes. There is also a sweet dark fruit note too. The Belgian yeast note is more prominent in the finish. The beer also has various Belgian spices that give it a nice Christmas feel to it.

The feel is good. It's a medium bodied beer that is more on the border of medium and heavy. The beer has a light and biting carbonation to it. Other than it's pretty smooth with a slight syrup feel to it.

Overall, a good dubbel and certainly spicy. It's good and worth picking up.
