After a carefully curated year long slumber in oak barrels which first housed Kentucky bourbon then Michigan maple syrup, this ode to the titans of English barleywine transforms into a purified expression of the confluence between beer, barrel, and time. Edges once angular have experienced a profound metamorphosis, seamlessly transforming in rounded flavors of vanilla, sweet cherry, burnt caramel, and honey. Barleywine is Beer is emblematic of our commitment to making the best beer possible in the present moment, in addition to providing scaffolding for the continual improvement of our craft.

Hazed, amber-orange with a finger-and-a-half of sandy-colored head. Sheets of lacing.
Leathery aroma with a kiss of vanilla and a nutty undertone.
Thin maple sweetness stands out first in the taste, along with a little cherry, balanced by leather, mild piney bitterness and a touch of alcohol.
Medium bodied. A little oily, a little sticky.
A tasty beer with some nice maple character.

Had on tap at JB. Excellent English style BW but with really ramped up ABV. Having said that it is not harsh and alcohol well hidden. Reported to be BA for a year in bourbon then maple barrels. Rich amber and burnt orange. Had great caramel and toffee flavor and sweetness, but nothing sticky or cloying. Smooth but still had some bright carbonation. So obviously a sipper but still not heavy or syrupy.
Didn’t really notice the maple or bourbon; kind of lost in the malt and wood.
Overall I thought this was a very good BW, and really glad I was able to try it.
