At the brewery.
16 ounce draft pour into a stemmed stange.
The clear pour is a gorgeous rich aged-mahogany color and has legs. The one finger head is comprised of large and small bubbled, reddish light-brown foam, has medium retention and leaves sheets of lace on the glass. A handsome glass of beer!
The nose is moderate strength, opens malty with dark fruit and is a bit vinous. Later in the glass a sweet not quite toffee like aroma starts to assert itself. Sweet and malty tasting as expected, it stops just short of cloying to my palate. The dominant flavor is plum-like, it also has a dark fruit and chocolate candy-like sweetness to it. About half way through the glass moderate hop bitterness starts to cut through the sweetness making for a semi-dry hoppy finish. The medium-full body has enough carbonation for an opening crisp bite that fades away leaving a smooth and creamy, viscous feel to the finish. It is slightly warming.
Enjoyable. Complex without being a chore to drink the whole pint, but it is definitely, to me, an after dinner sipping beer.
