Takes the base barrel aged beer from 2025 “Dusk till Dusk” and adds Guatemalan Cribbiana Vanilla to further accentuate the underlying sensations of dark chocolate and vanilla. Additionally, added a Creative Oak “ Custard” French oak bung insert to bring additional tannin and complementary flavor.

500ml bottle from Jailbreak brew pub in Laurel. Poured @ 60 degrees into tulip. Attractive deep dark base with brief rusty tan bubbly head. No retention; no lacing; no halo. Nose is deep and rich. Full of chocolate and vanilla. Booze shows up as well. Taste mirrors with touches of barrel or adjunct French oak stave. Dark almost Mexican like chocolate, wood and Vanilla dominate against the dark malts. Expectedly sweet for DtD, but not overwhelming. Booze adds an unattractive dry somewhat bitter aftertaste that both distracts and counters sweetness. Booze takes over in body/ drinkability. Alcohol burn contrasts with the otherwise welcome rich silky smooth thick body.
Overall a big and mostly enjoyable Chocolate/Vanilla BAIS. The high abv booziness and abrasiveness unfortunately did leap out and lessened the enjoyment of the beer.
Somewhat unrelated…this was my first time back to DtD since @ 2018. My main impression was that today’s brew was significantly simpler. Very tasty but very much less complex. The earlier brew really showcased a blending of multiple barrel aged beers…with a combination of different woods, spirits and styles of beer. that reminded me of the justifiably acclaimed Lost Abbey’s Deliverance. This brew fell back to what I perceived to be a much simpler brew and reminiscent of many other breweries and their BAIS’s.
