Throwback - from Hitchhiker. 16 fl oz can purchased from Franklin Beer Co, Franklin, PA, 06/05/24, $ 2.00 (Including tax), $ 0.125/fl oz. Reviewed 13/05/24 (Review 3278). Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Stamped on bottom of label “09/21/23”. Stored on a room temperature shelf at the distributor, 34 degrees at home. Served at 44.7 degrees F in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. The final temperature was 52.3 degrees F.
Appearance – 3.25.
First pour – Medium Amber (SRM 12), nearly opaque.
Body – Deep Amber (SRM 15), muddy and opaque. Under direct light, same with a few particles evident. When rear-lite, same.
Head – Average (Maximum 2.6 cm, aggressive center pour), almond, high density, average retention, leaving a 0.2 cm crown and a thin partial cap.
Lacing – None.
Aroma – 3.25 – A bit sweet with mild cinnamon. No yeast, no hops, no alcohol (6.6 % ABV as marked on the label). Not noticing any pumpkin either.
Flavor – 3 – Begins slightly sweet with cinnamon but no heat – there may be a hint of nutmeg as well. No yeast, no malt, no alcohol, no pumpkin. No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl. Eventual gastric warming as the brew warms, probably from the spices.
Palate – 3 – Medium; watery; soft carbonation.
Final Impression and summation: 3.25 Unappetizing appearance. Aroma is not bad. The flavor is so-so. One and done.
