Appearance: Pours a mostly clear, pale golden color with effervescent bubbles climbing the glass. A massive white head that overfills the glass and leaves no room for the beer. Had to wait for it to settle to pour more. SRM of 7.
Aroma: Strong and fruity & tart aromas here. Lots of lemon, pear, grape, juicyfruit. Tart fruit. Some notes of Belgian spices including coriander and white pepper before a wheat finish.
Flavor: The flavor follows with more tart fruit including lemon, pear, juicyfruit upfront. Then a definite Belgian spice component of some coriander and light white pepper. Follows into a wheat and smooth bready body.
Feel: Lighter-bodied. Stronger carbonation. Yeasty. Finishes clean, crisp, and yeasty to finish off the tart flavor in the middle. Clean. (4.00)
Compared to Lake of the Woods Lakeside Kolsch 6/6/21: Pours a lighter color. More effervescence and bubbles with a larger head obviously. Stronger flavors, fruitier and more tart fruit. Less bread, orange, and cream.
Overall: This was not the "American Wheat" I was expecting. First, from the pour it billowed out of the glass so high that there was some serious fermentation going on here. Maybe this was an American Wheat at one point and then it became spoiled and had fermentation. Nevertheless the fermentation notes were nice and it drinks like a decent Belgian Witbier. *Hard to rate a beer like this. Not at all to style, but still the probable contaminated result produced a nice fermentation quality with some good aromas and flavors. I enjoyed the beer, but suspect not in any credit to the brewery for not canning properly. (Final Rating: 3.86*)
