a sturdy rye ipa here, hazy and a little raw looking from the tap, lightly copper hued with some dulling haze present and a short white head from the tap that doesnt last too long. the aroma is peppery from the rye, woody, spicy, and piney from a big northwestern hop profile, and it seems quite bitter to me as well, fresh though, and appealing. the malt is pretty robust in nose and taste, sweet and stronger, baked and toasted and cooked and well developed, and the rye remains prominent, earthy, and obvious all the way through it. i like the fuller malt profile with the rye, and i like the robustness of this overall, but i think the beer is a little less professional and refined than i want it to be, even if they have a cool recipe going. the hops arent as bright as they could be, kind of stuck behind all the grain until they jst go bitter in the finish. some pine and bitter citrus notes and a woodiness exist in them, but they dont drive the flavor. the rye is awesome, must be high in proportion, and i like that, there is balance here. more carbonation would be good, a little cleaner finish too, but i think they are onto something here. i get annoyed at the rye beers where the rye is so subtle, so i appreciate a more heavy handed approach with it in this. kind of wintery to me overall too. good but not great for me on this one.

On draught at Wyoming Ale Works..
Pours a mostly clear orange gold with an inch of foam, leaves lacing behind.
Smells of pine, citrus, rye, quite hoppy and kinda bitter.
Taste is very hoppy. Pine, grapefruit citrus, spiciness of the rye, malt seems to be of the toasted side. Bitterness is up there.
Sticky bitter mouthfeel.
Very nice. Carbonation is appropriate and it's a good choice if you're looking for something hoppy.

Pours a ruddy copper-brown with a fluffy two-finger beige cap. Sticky web-like lace and decent retention. Aroma is crusty bread, some pepper, herbal hops and citrus rind. The flavor is slightly spicy from the rye and there is a strong hoppy astringency and molasses from malt. Kind of reminds me of iced tea. Even, dry hoppy finish medium body/finish. Pretty decent beer all in all. Would have again.
