a neat little belgian pale here, kind of old meets new in terms of the two takes on the style. on the one hand, its got an old world malt construction, a bit of a classic european bittering hop profile, and the yeast has been allowed to run out in front and take the lead in terms of flavor. on the other hand, there are some newer school hops in here too, a mosaic type with a lot of fruitiness to it, and then such a clean and straightforward belgian yeast strain is obvious, like its intensity is classic but its flavor is new american, almost too clean, lacking the rustic elements i like in the best examples of the style. i think this was probably the most refined beer i tried when we were in here, the proportions are excellent and the beer is bright and clean in look and feel. a medium body and a fast finish, just a white wine and pear note from the yeast left on the swallow, dry by the end, and well carbonation like i want pretty much all belgian styles to be. for awhile there belgian pales and ipa types were making a comeback, but it seems like they are fading out again. i love a good belgian pale, and am happy to see a small brewery like this pull it off so well. very enjoyable beer if you dont mind the samey yeast profile.
