10oz snifter at the brewery in Calgary.
This beer appears a clear, medium bronzed amber hue, with one finger of densely foamy, frothy, and slightly bubbly ecru head, which leaves some stringy cloudy lace around the glass as it slowly bleeds off.
It smells of pungent tropical fruit (pineapple, guava, and lime), somewhat dank pine resin, grainy caramel malt, a touch of toffee sweetness, and more leafy, herbal, and perfumed floral hops. The taste is sharp citrus rind and pine needle bitters, muddled tropicals, crackery caramel malt, a wet white breadiness, a hint of earthy yeast, and tangy leafy, floral hops - the elevated booze being integrated well enough.
The bubbles are fairly understated in their tame fizziness, the body an adequate middleweight, and a bit strident in its plainly edgy smoothness. It finishes off-dry, the feisty malt ducking and weaving amongst the lingering hops and alcohol esters.
A pleasant ode to ol' Ralphie, he of the predilection for the sauce. Big and brassy, with a simmering below the surface heat - yeah, that about sums it up.
