Can't remember how I obtained this but this was the first beer that I've reviewed on here from Triple Crossing and it was one of the better American Porters that I've had! Flavorful, easygoing, and balanced, there was a lot to enjoy here as t was a great take on this style from the get-go!
Of course, the pour to this was dark as it looked like coffee and was just as thin and slick. A voluptuous, mocha head topped it off as it took it's time to settle down. Much of the lacing left behind was a sheet with a thin, soapy ring lingering near the top of my pint glass. Lots of coffee, toffee, and a *bit* of coconut stuck out in the nose as the taste was moderately roasted on top of that. Dark bread and even darker fruit entered the fray as this warmed up with some European notes coming into play during my time with this. A hint of garnet around the edge of the liquid was a reminder that this beer did have some character and life to it without being overly roasted and dry like it's British counterparts.
Thankfully, this wasn't strong like those either. Canned on 3/18/18, this felt lively and fresh throughout as the coffee notes won out in the end. No, it wasn't a true Coffee Porter as there was much depth and creativity to be enjoyed here. A tad thin, the range of flavors was what saved this from being mired in mediocrity. This was a nice take on the style that was good enough to win people over to American Porters as it was a good first impression from Triple Crossing!

Received this as an extra in a trade. Canned on 3/8/18
A - Poured into my Duvel tulip a nice dark brown hue with a thin off white head that faded slowly to leave light wisps and a thin halo. No real lacing.
S - Aromas of dark malts, chocolate, nice coffee aromas, not much in the way of coconut though unfortunately.
T - Taste is similar to the nose with nice dark malts, little roast. Good chocolate flavour, nice roasted coffee beans. The coconut comes on slow at first but as it warms a nice coconut creme type flavour comes out. Almost like a mounds bar type of coconut.
M -Mouthfeel is lightly carbonated, body is light, comes across a bit on the thin side.
O - Overall this was a solid porter. The coconut was quite nice on the taste and the coffee was solid throughout. Could use a bit more body and better head retention.

L - 1-finger hazelnut head atop a black body.
S - coconut, coffee, chocolate. Some dark fruit.
T - lots of coconut to start, followed by coffee. Chocolate in the background. Vanilla. Biscuity malt.
F - rather light bodied for a porter.
O - a decent brew, but rather 1-dimensional.
