On tap at brewery:
Looks a tad “dirty” for a lager, with a slight lean to amber from the medium gold standard. A light amount of light-diffusing haze doesn’t help. What does is a near-white tight foam head that leaves globs of itself on the glass.
Nose has a very light sweetness to it, but is primarily a tangy smoke note. The smoke is strong compared to other aspects, but the entirety of the nose is light, it isn’t a dominating scent.
A light bread note is accompanied by a light tang that leans citrus tart. It’s well-restrained, and is similar to a note I get in some word-aged brews. I’d guess the only wood in this was used to smoke the malts, though. The smoke is noticed, but the mix of olfactory and palate seem to work together here. A slightly mineral aspect seems to mute the smoke. (I’ve noted this in another beer today, so it could be me or maybe something like the water supply).
A little heavier than a refreshing light lager, but not a challenge for the palate, heft or smoke-wise. A decent lightly smoked beer that seems to work best when aroma and flavor are mixed into one experience.
