Our latest iteration of the Triangles series features the always exotic Nelson Sauvin hop varietal.
Hopped with only Nelson in both the hot and cold side of our process, we find notes of bright citrus laden mango, tropical green melon, and resin laced gooseberry softness.
This hop has an incredibly unique character, and while difficult for us to source at times in quantities large enough to feature it on its own.. oh well, it’s worth it, and we’ll do it again.
There’s arguably only a few hop varietals that can stand alone and carry an entire beer by themselves - this is one of them.

Canned on 21/11/09. No brewery location on the label. Poured into a small-stemmed tulip.
Hops are the star of this shop. 4.0
A – Pours a hazy/cloudy dirty yellow with a three-finger rocky head. Good lacing. Opaque. Classed as an A-IPA – so hazy is a negative. 3.25
S – Aromas of pineapple, lesser pepperiness, and some very minor metallic taste. No sweetness. 4.0
T – Grapefruit rind dominates, grassy, lemony, low level of crackers, minor sweetness. No alcohol evident. 4.0
MF – Medium body, very dry finish, sharp on the palate, a bit tingly. Somewhat chewy. 4.25

Light gold in color, very hazy, with a pronounced Nelson aroma. Taste is all sweetness with some Nelson funk but not much bitterness at all. Medium body.

Canned 10/15/20. Cloudy milky gold with a thin white head; minimal cap retention; solid ring, sudsy lacing. Nose is skunky garlic, cat pissy, onion; strong and obnoxiously long lasting odor. Taste follows - onion, garlic, overripe green melon and semi-sweet tropical fruit...not sure I can finish the pint...Body is medium full; moderate carbonation; thankfully no hop burn. Overall, the nose is so overpowering that the taste had no chance...another poster child for #not for me.

Drank from can. Big on Nelson hops smell. Flavor is also my beloved Nelson hops. Medium bodied. Word to the wise...I've had this several times and if you drink it prior to other IPAs, the Nelson hops shine, otherwise they tend to be muted.
