473 ml can served cold into a pint glass. This rendition advertised as 5.0% ABV. Canned August 10th and review taken from notes on December 18. A gift in the form of leftover beer from a party.
Appearance - Pours a dark honey brown colored beer. A finger of tan head, moderate lacing. Above average retention.
Smell - Some caramel and vanilla with earthy hops. Faint butterscotch sweetness. More of a Oktoberfest or Amber than a brown ale.
Taste - Assertive bitterness. Earthy hops. Faint caramel sweetness. A slight musty vegetative undercurrent. Again this works closer to a Oktoberfest beer than a typical brown ale.
Mouthfeel - Smooth with good carbonation and a medium body.
Overall - While not a typical brown ale, this isn't bad if earthy hops are your thing. Not my favorite though, so I'd probably pass on this one next time.
