On-tap at Hoppy Brewing Company on March 14, 2009. This is the first beer I've had from this brewery, and as one of their 'Brewer's Special' beers I went into this with somewhat high hopes.
Pours a murky dark reddish-brown with a slight off-white head. A small amount of lacing remains as the glass empties.
Hints of malt, caramel, and fruit on the nose. Overall very muted, with perhaps a slight funkiness.
Taste is sweet with a strong malt character. There's a strong nuttiness to this beer, with a simple citrusy hop presence. Finish is fruity and sweet.
Body is relatively light with a medium amount of carbonation. The 7.1% abv is noticeable as a pleasant warming sensation on the swallow.
Took me a bit longer than average to get through this pour.
I'm hoping for a better experience on my next visit.
