This is a rural brewery and taproom on the St John River about 45 minutes from the U.S. 95 border crossing - en route to and handy for anyone coming into the Maritimes by road. There were 14 or-so beers on tap in a range of styles as well as wine and (I think?) cocktails (maybe canned cocktails)? There’s supposed to be food on site but for not-entirely-clear reasons there was none the week we were there. Which was fine; we made sandwiches in the camper and ate by the river.
What a hoot! Big Axe is a HarvestHost, meaning they host rvs and camper vans in their lot across the street on the bank of the river. We sat in the taproom shooting the shit with a bunch of other campers from all over the place until well after closing then bought some cans from the cooler to bring back across the street.
The beers were all solid (except for the DIPA which was vile… sorry). Selection was excellent. Can’t speak to the food because it wasn't there for some reason - although I'm told it usually is. Vibe was flannel-clad, lumber-jack backwoodsy saloon. Highly recommended and a no-brainer for anyone rv-ing who needs a place to sleep. Also, it's down the street from the biggest axe in the world which I still haven’t seen.
