A model after an Ordinary Bitter, English Ale is anything but bitter. Smooth malting with subtle bitterness from East Kent Golding hops, this sessionable ale is balanced and full of flavor.

Best enjoyed at around 50 degrees, and for those English purists, look for this beer being pulled from a cask in the traditional English style.

As a young man I lived in London for a year and drank a lot of beer (but I repeat myself). I have a soft spot for distinctly British styles so thought this would be worth a try. Pours a murky brown with orange and maroon highlights and has a wet, cream colored head. Nose is faint with bread malts and a hint of dark fruit.

Mild and refeshing taste with notes of cracker, apple, plum, baker's chocolate and clove. Not much for hops but pleasant in the body and finish. Smooth in texture and I imagine even more so on cask.

Not exactly what I was looking for but enjoyable all the same.

A: Pours a clear dark reddish amber in color with moderate amounts of gentle carbonation rising from the bottom of the glass and moderate garnet red + copper highlights. The beer has a three finger tall sudsy foamy beige head that slowly reduces to couple of small patches of medium thick film surrounded by a thin film covering the remainder of the surface of the beer and a medium thick ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate aromas of biscuit + pale malts with a light amount of fruity sweetness. Light to moderate aromas of spicy + earthy hops.

T: Upfront there is a moderate flavor of biscuit + pale malts with a light amount of light fruit (apple + white grape) sweetness and a hint of nuttiness. That is followed by light to moderate flavors of spicy + earthy hops which imparts a light amount of bitterness which fades pretty quickly.

M: Just shy of medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation.

O: A nice drinking English Bitter though slightly more heavily carbonated than I used to for this style (since the majority of these I have experienced where on cask in pubs in London). Easy to drink and enjoyable.
