Getting back to pilsner basics, the Pollyanna brewing team often get off of their crafty ways and make a time honored, traditional, classic Czech-styled Pilsner for an everyday, all occasion beer without sacrificing character.

Simply and aptly named Pollyanna Pils pours with a pale and brilliant gold with a gaze of chrome that shines through breaming carbonation and lies just underneath a fluffy, frothy stance of foam. A nearly buttery, toasty scent accompanies a fresh baked bread scent with freshly kilned grains and a floral hint of honeysuckle to charm the senses. Sweet and savory early on the tongue, the pilsner malt influences are strong with soft suggestions of biscuit, honey and croissant.

As the rounded malt sweetness rolls along the middle palate, its flavor turns mildly toasty, nutty and buttery once more, on its way to a spicy grain bite that steps in right before a firm hop balance of lemon pepper, lemongrass, mint and tea from its sturdy use of noble hops. Its herbal, spicy and grassy bitterness is just enough to offset the remaining sweetness and to bring the session within balance.

Medium light, but somewhat fuller bodied compared to other lagers, the beers bittersweet linger begins to favor the hops in a medium length aftertaste of grassy spices and light potpourri. A character of eucalyptus pulls from the hop resins and alcohol to surpass the more savory malt components marginally in the end.

16oz draft pour into a pilsner glass shows a bright, clear, yellow-gold body with a short-lived 1/4in white head of medium sized bubbles which quickly falls to an edge-hugging ring.

Aroma and flavor is classic spicy floral saaz hops with a solid malt backbone.

Mouthfeel is light, crisp, and clean.

Overall an all day drinker for both mowing and grilling.
