Half Growler directly from the Brewery. Saw the announcement on Twitter, so sent my brother right away to get a fresh sample.
Clear, dark reddish brown, thin layer of bubbly foam, minimal lace.
Smells of lots of malt, bready and caramel, and some fruits.
The taste starts with the dark bready malt and caramel, then dark fruits like plum. Just a hint of herbal hops to finish.
The carbonation is good (no time for the growler to go flat) , medium body, smooth and easy to drink. Sweet finish, but not cloying.
Can't wait to try more experiments from Olds College

16oz glass at Beer Revolution YEG Oliver.
This beer appears a clear, dark mahogany brown hue, with one skinny finger of weakly foamy, and generally bubbly tan head, which leaves some stringy webbed lace around the glass as things slowly abate.
It smells of semi-sweet doughy and bready caramel malt, phenolic earthy yeast, a further biscuity graininess, muddled dark orchard fruit, and faint weedy, lightly spicy hops. The taste is more bready, grainy caramel malt, browned apples, subtle earthy spice, sedate yeast, thin demarara sugar, and weak leafy, weedy hops.
The carbonation is fairly bubbly and unafraid of its foray into frothiness, the body a decent medium weight, and generally smooth, the yeast doing well to keep its old man hands to itself. It finishes off-dry, yet not all that sweet, a soupcon of balanced complexity the order of the day here.
One of the better offerings that I've had the opportunity to sample from this nascent teaching brewery. Subtle, and somewhat beguiling, like a burgeoning flower of a wholly different sort - worthy of checking out, should you get the chance.
