Growler direct from the brewery, shared with family. I love getting to try all of their seasonals.
This beer was clear, shiny mahogany color. Short off-white head, leaves strings of lace, slowly fades to a floating cap.
It smells of some Christmas spices, (or pumpkin spice I guess), ginger, clove allspice, toffee malt.
The taste is one the sweet side, then more spicy notes, same as the smell. Slight earthy hops at the end. Alcohol is well hidden, no burn going down.
The carbonation is a good level, not overly fizzy, but still enough to give a good body and mouth feel.
An overall, easy to drink, nicely flavored Christmas beer.

16oz glass at Beer Revolution - the earnest-seeming barkeep said that this tastes like spicy Dr. Pepper - we shall see.
This beer appears a clear, bright medium bronzed amber colour, with one skinny finger of wispy, frothy, and bubbly off-white head, which leaves some stringy high altitude cloud lace around the glass as things slowly abate.
It smells of zingy gingerbread, caramel/toffee malt, further clove and black pepper spice, and a wee earthy dryness. The taste is more rather gingerbread-heavy sugary and spicy characters - ginger, nutmeg, and clove, with a hard candy fruitiness, and some semi-sweet bready caramel malt - all over a plain earthy and slightly perfumed floral hoppiness.
The carbonation is nice and supportive in its no-nonsense frothiness, the body a sturdy middleweight, and mostly smooth, just a bit of testy spice nosing around here. It finishes off-dry, and still rather Christmas cake-like in its bearing.
Well, I can't say that I'd put the students at Olds Brewing College on the titular shit list, as they've rendered a very Yuletide-worthy tipple. Spicy, sweet, and a decent potential flavour combination for all that saccharine crap that we're all going to be seeing much more of in the coming weeks.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
