Our honey brown ale is as inviting as the historic English pubs where the style originated, and the name extols Fort Collins' signature sound as the trains roll through. Roasted character balances mild hop bitterness and sweet honey malt afternotes. A clean, somewhat drying finish allows the sweetness of malt to shine through. Quaffable in design, this ale will toast well in any situation and keep you coming back for more!.

12oz can, painted label. No dating information found.
Clear for clarity, with a ruby brown colored body. One finger of tan colored head retreats to a thin cap and higher ring. Leaves behind jagged lacing rings.
Aroma of roasted malts, with whiffs of chocolate and toffee. Honey sweet.
Taste is honey sweet from the special honey malt. Flavors emerge of chocolate, a general nutty note, and toffee. Stays honey sweet through the aftertaste. Some bitterness from the hops.
Thinner mouthfeel. Clean pass through with a drying finish. Some limited tongue numbing. Good carbonation.
More nuanced than bold. Sweet for the style, but balanced by the earthy bits.

12oz can with no date.
Pretty straight forward brown ale. Has some English yeast esters and honey sweetness to set itself apart. Not much for hops or bitterness. Feels a bit under carbonated.

From tap at brewery light amber little head. Aroma malty and nutty. Taste is a light honey from the malt. There is no honey in the beer. Little hop flavor and mild sweetness. Nice carbonation good not great

the lighter side of brown ales for sure, a tasty one, although a little misleading in that i was informed there is in fact no honey in this beer, rather it is brewed with honey malt. on tap at their quaint little tap room in fort collins, it pours a somewhat see through light brown color, with a full inch of remarkable radiant whitish head with good retention. smells and tastes a little sweet for the style, but there is the proper low end of richer chocolate malt and some english crystal type. nutty and toasty, but well short of the bigger roasted malty browns, this is more delicate, obviously showcasing the honey malt it derives its name from. smooth and sweet on the palate, with enough carbonation and only a light medium body, even a little thin to me. i like when a brewery can make delicious and well executed experimental and innovative beers, but its also nice when that same brewery can turn around and nail down something a little closer to home, and horse and dragon has demonstrated a great ability to cover both ends of the spectrum. nothing to blow your mind here, but a very solid and somewhat distinctive take on the style. very easy drinking as browns go too.
