A heavy golden strong ale that spent 18 months in our brewery in Napa Valley zinfandel & cabernet barrels that imparted warm oak and rich red wine characteristics as the beer matured. Select barrels (each of which had put its own distinct stamp on the beer) were carefully blended back with a fresh golden strong. The resultant beer is a layered delight: pick out flavors of pear, apricot, cherry, white grape, honey, and dry oak, and then have a serious red wine retronasal experience. As the beer breathes and warms, new flavors open up. At 9%, Chateau Racquette will keep you in a celebratory mood through the holidays and beyond. -- From our chateau to yours, cheers!

Clear, golden honey body; thin, wispy head. Very floral and mildly sweet nose. Definite red wine taste to the beer; starts out rather sweet and pleasant but then gets a heavy dose of tannin flavor. light red wine character. Medium body; semi-dry overall.
The brewery's web site lists the ABV at 9.0 % but the N3 Taphouse beer list has it at 9.7% ABV. The beer itself is so-so. The wine element just clashes with the beer malt base. It seems to me more like a brut IPA (and not that good). One of the few glasses of beer I left unfinished at the taphouse...
