Sampling a cellar temp 22 oz bottle poured into a snifter. The beer pours a mahogany color with deep garnet highlights on the sides of the glass when held up to the light. A creamy tan head of 3 cm foams up and fades slowly to a sturdy edge layer with a wispy surface layer. Several streams of carbonation rise to the surface of the beer.
Aroma is a little brown sugar and caramel malt , I get just a bit of vanilla and just a whiff of bourbon in the background. Definitely not an overwhelming bourbony nose.
First sip reveals an average body with velvety smooth texture and very fine tingly carbonation.
Flavor is all malt with caramel and brown sugar that finishes with a mild but lingering bourbon note. No hint of any hops or booze as I drink this beer. I enjoy this one a lot and I think the bourbon hints are at just about the right level of subtly to enhance the beer base but not overpower it. I am a bourbon fan so that wouldnt be a problem, but some barrel aged brews lose the beer profile. A solid brew from Duvig.
