Note: I got a half-growler (32 oz) last week from a friend, who got it directly from the brewers. Its handwritten label says "Imp Farmhouse" but there's no way this is a Saison (there is a beer already entered here on BA as "Imperial Farmhouse Ale"), so I'm reviewing the beer here, as a new entry, since it's black and tastes and smells like a Double/Imperial Stout and not a Saison. . . .
A: Poured into a Corsendonk chalice. Body is black, with a small tannish head that disappears right away.
S: Molasses, raisins and dark fruits in general. Some coffee as it warms.
T: Pretty much follows the nose, with molasses, dark dried fruits (prunes, raisins), some chocolate (cocoa powder mainly) and brown-bready malt. Alcohol is noted, both as a warming/drying sensation on the back of the palate and as heat on the way down into - and then in - the belly.
M: A bit flat. Body is medium-to-full in heft.
O: Tasty - for an American Imperial/Double Stout. This clearly is not a Saison.
