On Tap (Nitro) at the brewery in Bellefonte

I'm hit or miss with RHBC but this was a really outstanding beer.
Pours black as night with a cascading nitro head that finished off at a half inch on tan
The booze and deep roasted malt is prominent, almost overpowering but hell, its a barrel aged imperial stout so that is the point!
Taste is better than what I remember from having it on CO2. Really smooth malts not much of a hop profile and the bourbon comes through perfectly on the back end. None of the leathery tanned hide aftertaste that you get with KBS and BCBS. Maybe the nitro was key in smoothing those flavors out. Really delicious!
The feel is as expected from a nitro stout, creamy and smooth which balances out the powerful flavors and works great on this beer, the only downside of the nitro was that I planned on getting a growler but nitro doesn't play nice with take out beer.
Overall, compared to other versions of barrel aged stout (all the big boys) this really stands out. This could be the best I've ever had. It didn't have the leathery aftertaste that accompany's BA stout so often. I stopped for one but had to have two. Well done RHBC!

Had on-tap at Home-D in State College, poured into a snifter.

L: Pours a midnight black color. Thin tan head that falls rapidly.

S: Booze and coffee... faint chocolate notes. Oak and vanilla.

T/F: Fairly one dimensional for a bourbon barrel aged beer. It's rather harsh... strong roast up front with a bourbon slap. Boozy and alcoholic... coffee and chocolate notes are very subdued and you really get hammered with the bourbon. Vanilla and oak are also secondary but present. Low carbonation as expected. Very warming and strong.

O: An average to slightly above average bourbon barrel stout. Definitely delivers the bourbon flavor but lacking the complexity that would make it really stand out. A bit harsh... couldn't drink more than one.
