Drank this alongside Khiasmus and Pingwin407, who generously brought this and other goodies back from a Belgium trip. Thanks!
Pours from a funky-chubby swingtop growler-bottle... thing. Impossible to know how this was stored or how old it is, sadly. Flying blind here, folks!
A. Pale gold, a low wisp of foam and low carbonation. Looks like carbonated apple juice. As we get closer to the bottom of the growler, more and more sediment emerges until it's a milky, ugly gold. Hmm.
S. Sweet honey and white grapes. As this warms, it opens up and gets a little bready and floral, with hints of candi sugar and booze throughout. Reminds me of some other sweet-blonde Belgian that I can't put my finger on. Good, not great.
T. Honey-apple cider springs to mind, sweet, wet, springtime and evident booze. Rather two-dimensional at first, when in reality is quite subtle. Pleasing old hop notes and flowery, grassy notes throughout; the overall impression is sweet, easily drinkable ale with a gentle yeast touch-up. The low carbonation helps this go down easy, though I suspect it should have a lot more pizazz.
M. Mid bodied, but very low carbonation here. Finish is sweet with champagne notes and the alcohol lingers.
Vleteren 8 is a good beer, I imagine fresh would be quite a bit better. Very fun to try a "new" brew with no reviews and I look forward to checking it out when (not if!) I make my pilgrimage to Belgium myself.

Poured out of a 2 liter growler-style bottle with a swing-top. Thanks to Pingwin407 for bringing this back from Belgium.
The beer poured with no head. I suspect there may have been a slight leak in the gasket, as it was crooked. A slightly cloudy blonde body, and no lacing.
Aroma is of honey, slight brett funk, some noble, almost aged-smelling hops (lightly cheesy), and a hint of alcohol.
Flavor is much the same. Very sweet, lightly lemony, then a distinct bittering hop and light sour, much like an Orval in the finish.
Mouthfeel has very low carbonation, lightly syrupy, clean, lightly dry finish.
This beer is very, very drinkable. I feel as though it is not what it was meant to be, but as I have no baseline from which to judge, I shall have to wait until my next try. I feel that at least the carbonation should be higher, and I also think this would be better fresh.
