(Notes of 23/04/09) Purchased from the expensive, Belgium-based "Belgian Shop"; coming in a 250ml slim brown bottle, bottle-conditioned; BB Feb. 09, served lightly chilled in Hapkin's tulip-shaped bowl sniffer.

A: pours a dark orangey amber hue, coming with fine and mild carbonation along with scattered bits of yeast sediments, while the off-white frothy head retains the texture very well indeed.
S: the nose places heavy emphasis on aromatic fruit esters, featuring vanilla, green apples, sour oranges, sour mangos, passion-fruits, on top of an oily flow of creamy pale malts intertwined with banana-skin-ish yeastiness. The alcohol is pretty restrained, leaving the syrupy, exotic fruity elements to dominate the theme.
T: rather simplistic on the foretaste, with a mildly sugary maltiness to go with a moderate aftertaste full of ripe exotic fruits (mainly dried mango slices, sweetened pale prunes, marmalade and a touch of ripe bananas), while a pronounced sour flavour as of lactose drink is never far away. The finish is not dissimilar from the main flavour, albeit with an additional touch of powdery palate of hops and yeast sediments.
M&D: the mouthfeel is slightly flat for the flavour profile, as the carbonation is obviously weaker than desirable for an estery ale, while the body remains medium-light for the 8%abv. strength, thus approachable enough. Overall, this is a predominantly fruity fare, with o.k. support from the malts, slightly simplistic likely due to the expiry issue (this one is consumed later than the suggested BB date) or an intrinsic imbalance b/w yeast and malts.
