Not your traditional Helles. Although you'll taste the idea of a Helles. This version is dry hopped with about 1lb per barrel of Saaz and Hallertau hops to give it a nice earthy spicy and slightly lemony character.

Hmmm. Notes say this is retired but I got it from the store yesterday. Slight difference in the color of the can and the label says "dry hopped" instead of helles. ..I'm going to presume this is the same beer back from retirement. Murky burnished gold color, nice head and lacing. Citrus lemon smell, tastes like rain in the grass. Medium mouthfeel, very good.

Attractive bright yellow color with plenty of foam in the tulip. Adequate spritzy mouthfeel with a malty body. Brewer says this is dry hopped with Saaz and Hallertau hops. HInts of lemon and lime in the aroma. The perfumey smell and taste is actually more like a Kölsch.
The hop notes are distinct without much bitterness. The is a better than the average Helles for sure. Just to be confusing, this bottle says ABV is 5.7% but the draft version 5.2%. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at the brewery tap in Aurora.

Mildly cloudy, light yellow body; thick, foamy white head; sticky rings and globs of foam along the glass. Fruity aroma; pear and pineapple. Citrus and mild sour flavor; light cereal grain backbone. Medium body; sharp tanginess.
This beer comes across more like a mild sour ale than a lager. It does deliver the pale, blonde color of a German helles beer but definitely comes across with a strong tartness befitting a sour ale and lacks a lager smoothness. Although the bottle label states this is a helles lager, it really is more of a hybrid of sorts, tasty and unique.
