Brewery describes this version of Aurora Strong as "Belgian Dark Strong aged ten months in Laws Secale Rye Whiskey barrels and re-pitched with out house mixed-culture." I am hoping they mean OUR house.

Poured from the 750 ml capped bottle purchased at the brewpub at Fitzsimmons. Appearance is lovely, a dark orangey coppery color with lots of fine-grained froth in the Brugse Zot goblet. Sharp nose with more than a hint of vinegar. Quite tart in the mouth with the teeth on edge.

Some roasted malt going sour. The rye whiskey taste is modest but adds some pleasure to the quite acidic brew. Somehow the barrel aging added an excess of wild nonsense to a beer that I would like to be more mellow. However the sour enthusiasts will find this one well on the way.
