Dark, reddish-brown body; thin head that quickly devolves to a light ring around the glass. Sweet, heavy aroma; figs and dates; very faint note of charred grain. Huge amounts of licorice, brown sugar, and caramel; some alcohol notes buried deep within the sweetness; chewing tobacco. Heavy body; thick and chewy; oily; boozy heat; heavy on the residual sugars.
I really want to like this beer, but the over-abundance of sweetness really overpowers all other factors with this beer. There are some great flavors to pick out of the sugary morass, but they don't last long enough to provide some balance to things.
