The word ‘dunkel’ is German for ‘dark’ and this bottom fermented lager has malt forward flavors balanced with honey wheat bread + caramel notes. This beer goes great with food and stands perfectly on its own — quickly becoming a favorite that we couldn’t do without.

Nutty, a little caramel and molasses-like sweetness, but just a touch, then an earthy, dry finish. Dunkel that reminds me of a very dry porter. Didn't blow my socks off, but good.

Glad to see this brewery around here. Can date smudged and cut off.
Pours an off-white frothy foamy head with great retention, mild soapy lacing, mostly clear tan-reddish color
Nose fair sweet toasted brown-reddish malts, no caramel or toffee, but a little biscuity, very toasted, some bread crust, touch of hop
Taste brings more of the toasted grainy malt, quite toasty, toasted bread crust again, a touch biscuity, a little nutty, hint of toffee but not really sweet caramel, soft lager, hint of fruit probably malt-derived, med-lighter bitterness, little herbal earthy hop character, especially on the drier finish, not super crisp but mostly clean, little herbal spicy hop lingering with med bitterness
Mouth is med to a little lighter bod, soft lager, med to a little lighter carb
Overall pretty solid dunkel, can't tell if there's wheat but as they only called it a dunkel and not dunkelweizen that's fine, malt character is quite nice without overly caramel or sweet like most American breweries do, nice hop character, also not overdone like many breweries do, enjoyable as I've started to come to expect from this brewery

This one pours a darkish brown color, with a small head, and lots of lacing.
This smells like baked brown bread, with banana, caramel, and grassiness.
Though it's on the nose, the weizen half of this dunkelweizen does not show up much on the taste here. It's more just malty dunkel goodness - brown bread and some bittersweet caramel, along with a light herbal grassy bitterness.
This is light bodied, slightly creamy, with a great drinkability to it.
I didn't really think Austin Street would do this one all that well, as I basically thought they were a haze factory. This was a nice surprise.
