Notes:
Based on a sweet stout recipe and enriched with cold Toddy-extracted Organic Colombian Supremo and Espresso Roasted coffee. Exclusively poured on Nitrogen gas lines for a silky texture with a pillowy white head. The result is a rich, creamy stout with hearty roasted coffee flavor and a quick finish. When three fourths of a glass of our coffee milk stout sits, cascading, waiting for the last two inches of black velvet sexy loveliness to top it off, creating the bright white fluffy head….all you can do is take a deep breath and concentrate on patience, knowing that from the first clean robust sip to the last drop, Black Hog Brewing Co. coffee milk stout always hits the mark.

Poured from a can into a pint glass.
Appearance: Dark brown, slightly translucent. Fluffy khaki head.
Smell: Pretty mild. Sweet and oaty with a bit of hops. No coffee.
Taste: Blonde roast coffee with some milk added. Not very dark and roasty -- more like toasted bread. Some malt sweetness. Good and inoffensive, but just a little underpowering.
Feel: Smooth and creamy, with light carbonation. Dry on the back of the tongue.

Fine mid-pack offer, plenty of flavor for a 5.5%.
a) Mixed, weak head despite the humorous advice to pour hard, but does look and lace nicely despite fast fade tan head.
s) aroma offers abundant coffee, roasted malts, chocolate, lots of lactose and background hops. But ample.
t) Complex but sweet. First a strong BLACK coffee followed by lactose creaminess on a base of roasty malt character, all backed by a hop finish.
f) Thiner but crisper than anticipated, dry clean finish.
o) Solid contender with more than most.

Disappointing head, poured straight in, the head is thick but fades quickly. The color is awesome. Pleasing aroma though just slightly coffee. Nicely rounded flavor, not too sweet, coffee is too subtle but the beer has no off flavor and good amount of hops. Very good cream texture. Taste lingers. A second glass would be welcomed.

L - Poured black with a one finger, light mocha head. Nice lacing!
S - Some coffee and some roast.
T - Followed the nose.
F - medium to full mouth feel. Fairly smooth but with a lingering carb feel. Pretty dry finish.
O - A nice beer I would not mind having again.

This pours a nice dark color with hints of red mahogany edge...with a nice thick tan foam with decent lacing.
Aroma is slight coffee with burnt malts and maybe a bit of fruity sweetness to it...not as pronounced in coffee as expected, but still nice.
The taste kinda goes along with the aroma...coffee burntness and sslight sweetness from the milky cream parts, but again not the coffee i was looking to get. Which goes with the feel...smooth creamy, but not heavy at all. A very nice milk stout.
Overall a very decent drinkable beer and with the ABV that I can enjoy a few at a time.

A: appears opaque, but is crystal clear with ruby highlights at the edges when held up to the light; less than a 1 finger light brown head that receded to a wispy cap; nice lacing;
S: deeply roasted grain and mocha;
T: follows the nose from start to finish; mild to moderate bitterness at the end;
M: medium to full bodied; moderate carbonation; lightly dry finish;
O: good, but not a coffee stout I would seek out again;

12 oz nitro can
Pours very dark reddish brown with a moderate size tan head that has decent retention.
Aroma: dark coffee and hints of dark bread, spicy hops, toffee and molasses.
Flavor: rich, mild-moderately bitter flavor with both dark coffee and roasted grains contributing to the intensity and the impression of dark chocolate.

Black Hog Brewing Co. "Coffee Milk Stout"
12 fl. oz. can
$2 @ Giant, Havertown, PA
Notes via stream of consciousness: The lip of the can reads, upside down, "If you can read this you're doing it right", and the side of the can reads "open can - turn upside down - pour aggressively". I guess the idea is that they want you to build a head on it, and that's certainly worked, I've got a two-finger thick head of foamy tan that seems to be taking forever to drop. It's really too much head for me, I don't like to start until it's about half of that. So, OK, I'll wait... much better. Now, the aroma... dark malts with what I perceive to be an acidic side, some molasses, and just a hint of coffee beans. Hopefully the flavor will be better, meaning more coffee-like... and yes, it is, but not by much. I find it more of just a milk stout, which is fine by me but would probably aggravate some other people. Let me check again... there's coffee to it, definitely, but it's just not as strong as so many other examples I've tasted recently. But OK, let that be, why should I compare it? I shouldn't. It's got some coffee to it, some mild dark chocolate, some apple and perhaps cherry-like fruitiness, a soft, ashen roastiness, and some nice caramel notes. It's good, it's just not eye opening in terms of being a coffee beer. A median bitterness balances it and lingers in the dry finish along with residual burnt notes and baker's chocolate. Medium bodied with a gently crisp then smooth and almost creamy carbonation. Overall nicely done.

Poured into a grip shaped goblet: color is solid black, head is light tan with fine bubbles, head presents at least 1/2 inch thick then dissipates to a thin top and some lacing on the glass sides.
Smell is roast, light coffee, good lactose/creamy aroma.
Taste is a blend of the stated flavors but the coffee is subdued, but a very good lactose/creamy flavor: roasted malt presents foremost, then some coffee bitterness, then lingering lactose creaminess.
Mouthfeel is crisp, and becomes a sharper crisp bitterness after warming.
Overall, a good coffee/milk stout with a strong lactose/cream presence in aroma and flavor.
