Sampling a cellar temp can poured into my snifter. Picked up the can at the brewery after recent barrel aged fest.
The beer pours a dark cola brown color with creamy tan head of about 1 cm. The foam sticks around as a thin surface layer and leaves tight lattice on the sides of my glass as I drink the beer.
Aroma is dark chocolate and roasted malt some deep plums and port wine notes as well. No hint of hops nor any booze either, which is similar to the other versions of Leaves a Mark that I have had. The first sip reveals an average to thicker body and very smooth velvety texture. The carbonation is fine and tingly as it rolls across my palate.
Flavor is rich and malty with dark chocolate and brown sugar with some plums and molassess too. Again no hops here. A good dose of port wine comes through and makes for a deep flavor profile.
This is a rich robust malty brew that hides its large ABV in a dangerously effective manner.
Another home run in the imperial stout category from Black Hog!

Poured from a can.
Pretty good! Smell is mostly of port wine, dark cherry fruit. Taste has a bit more dark caramel and chocolate malts, with a sweet fruity quality. Slick and sweet feel.
Overall, pretty good! I would be curious to try other versions in this series.
