Poured from a tallboy can into a Dogfish Head tulip

L: Slightly hazed golden pour with 2 fingers of white head. Decent lacing.

S: Tangerine and citrus.

T.F: Light grains and a strong flavor of tart tangerine. Grapefruit rind... a bit of pineapple and spice. Medium bodied... not picking up on any pomegranate.

O: Tangerine forward... no pomegranate to speak of. Decent but not spectacular. Wish I had a single instead of a 4pack.

L - 1-finger offwhite head atop a near-opaque orange body.

S - fruit juice, orange, brown sugar.

T - fruit salad. Orange, melon, lime. Low bitterness. Moderate-low sweetness. No booziness.

F - slightly more than medium body with appropriate carb.

O - don’t get the advertised fruit, but I enjoy this. Reminds me more of a dry-hopped sour.

It's pretty weird to see Portland darlings of brewing and distilling Liquid Riot collaborate with hit-or-miss purveyors of odd ales Black Hog (who operate out of Connecticut), but here we are. I think there have been previous Juice Cups, and it seems they were also Liquid Riot collabs, but I am not familiar with them. I do know that this one is a tangerine/pomegranate IPA clocking in at 7% and featuring Sultana and Citra hops.

Pours a gorgeous light/medium amber with a solid showing of bone-white head measuring about a finger-and-a-half, which leaves behind fantastic sheets of lace. Decent legs as well. Overall, an extremely nice looking fruited IPA! The lace is so damn good here. I hope it bespeaks an incredible hop presence, because this definitely seems to be implying the beer will be high-quality!

The nose is surprisingly funky right away, with a ton of the citrus and pithy notes from the tangerine combining with the juicier pomegranate, but with a little weird yeast quality as well. Maybe Brett trois? Or perhaps it's this new hop varietal? Sultana hops are totally alien to me, but they seem to be a pineapple-forward varietal that melds well with fruits such as these. Berries and light grassy notes combine with coconut and a nice, rounded malt note to bring forth a complex yet well-defined fruit aspect that I hope carries over to the palate.

On the tongue, this is juicy and enjoyable with a lot of the adjunct fruit elements coming to the fore while some nice, strict bitterness from the hops manages to hold everything down in a consistent manner. Soft feel and smoothness from the oats helps the intense hop character meld with the fruit additions. Pineapple and grapefruit from the hops balance the berry flavors of the pomegranate and the citric juiciness of the tangerine, and the finish is full-bodied and well-rounded... this isn't even a little bit dry, honestly. So much juice going on, but it's also so bitter. What a beer! Can't believe how many directions this beer is pulled in, yet it succeeds at all of them. Clearly the mark of a great recipe. If you enjoy fruited IPAs, this should be your next purchase. End of story!
