When I saw this I thought, "finally an Imperial Stout made in Rhode Island!"
So my hopes are high but I will try my best to hold this to the flames.
Pours almost ink black, you see a slight hue of brown while pouring, producing a mocha colored head.
Aroma: first thing I pick up is a coffee smell similar to that of KBS/FBS. some cocoa/chocolate in there as well. the roasted notes are very faint, earthy.
Taste: here is where the roasted malts show themselves, its up front and adds to the bitterness that hits at first sip. getting some molasses. the flavor is a bit lacking although the mouthfeel is good, on the heavier side of medium and a touch silky but still... the flavor is lacking.
I've been tasting a lot of overly sweet stouts lately but this one could use a bit more sweetness to balance out the bitterness.
