Malefactus is our Imperial Wheat Stout with brettanomyces. It is brewed to 11% ABV using abbey, debittered roasted & chocolate wheat malts. Stylistically it is a hybrid between a strong stout, Belgian’ quad & a dark wheat beer. The aroma is lightened by the use of coriander & black pepper. Primary fermentation takes 4 weeks & the it slowly matures in exhausted whiskey barrels for an additional 6 weeks.

A very no-nonsense Imperial Stout with a chocolaty flavor upfront and a boozy finish. Quite bitter too but the malty base makes it feel balanced. Medium body with very light carbonation.

NO can date
Pours a large foamy creamy 1.5 finger brown head with good retention, spotty lacing, basically black color
Nose brings rich dark malts, roasted malts, coffee, into carafa like roasted nougat, toasted marshmallow and sweet chocolate candy bar, licorice spice, spicy hops
Taste starts with the rich malt again, lots of dark roasted malts, roasted coffee, charred nougat marshmallow like, faint smoky, rich dark chocolate and dark chocolate cocoa, into more of the baking spices with a bit of licorice, semi sweet with some candy bar, fair spicy hops, moderate bitterness from the hops and roasted malts, semi sweet mild dry finish, a flash of warming alcohol
Mouth is rich full bod, a bit creamy thick, light warming alcohol, med to a bit lighter carb
Overall good, nice overall Imp stout characters, not overly roasty or spicy or boozy, good balance, well done

Canned on: ?????
A - Pitch black pour with frothy, creamy caramel lacing.
S - Chocolate and chocolate char dominate the nose with a slight bit of breadyness.
T - Chocolate, chocolate roast, chocolate char, a slight bit of dark fruit, some yeast, and a slight bit of Whisky.
M - Viscous and silky while leaving a sticky residue on the lips and some light warming in the back of the throat.
O - This is an impressive stout, I want more.

Look: It pours very dark brown with a tan head. Head retention is very good.
Smell: There are strong chocolate and roasted aromas up front with some whiskey notes in support. There are some dark fruit notes that feature mostly figs. There is also a touch of licorice and dried cherry elements.
Taste: It has chocolate and roasted flavors with a bit of sweetness. There are fig flavors in support with whiskey notes and dried cherries. There are hints of smoke and dough. It takes like a quad with whiskey and imperials stout elements.
Feel: It has a full body with pleasant alcohol warming.
Overall: A very different and complex beer. It's a bit sweeter than most imperial stouts, but the flavors blend with the sweetness work well together.

Very nice pour. Deep deep brown color with great head that really sticks around.
No real nose.
Smooth, easy to drink, very thin.
Overall a good beer, but nothing too special.

The pour is jet black with a tan head of foam. The taste is rich roasted malt, dark chocolate, along with hint of coffee. Cheers! B

Batch 1. Pours a deep mahogany, almost brown, with no head. Clarity is fairly opaque. Nose is dominated by grapes. Taste expresses muted grapes, oaky notes and finishes with a slightly medical character. Mouthfeel is light-medium in body with a mild acidity and a still carbonation. Overall, interesting and complex. Nice job with this one.

On tap.
Looks black-brown, no head just a few bubbles.
Smells funky sour, some dark spicy character with roasted malt.
Taste is complex, a bright sour balanced by dark coffee and red wine fruits.
Feels slick and smooth, some noticeable alcohol with a dry finish, but thinner body than expected given the abv.
Overall, an interesting unique beer. Complex flavors and certainly worth seeking out if you're a fan of sour stouts, but not for me.

Saved for my son's second birthday. Pours a very dark black. Tan head fades quickly to a thin bead. Aroma is fruity with a hint of smoke. Smells of blackberry and currants. The taste is an odd mix of sour, smoke, fruit, and black pepper. Somewhat vinous with a vanilla sweetness. Black pepper lingers on the finish. Low to moderate sourness. Medium bodied with some alcohol warmth. Very unique and curious beer. The balance between sour and roasted malt is difficult to achieve.
