Arcanum is our Adambier. Adambier is an extinct German ale style that was brewed around Dortmund. It was reminiscent of a strong altbier brewed to about 11% abv & was fairly well hopped for its time. It was then matured & soured in oak barrels.

This Songularis version was matured in small 100L Hillrock Estate Solera Whiskey barrels for 7 months. This beer is still but may develop a hint of carbonation over time.

Post-birthday beer. Blend number 1. 500ml bottle served at 50 degrees in a tulip. Pours a muddy mahogany hue with a loose, quarter inch head that quickly dissipates into a cluster of bubbles around the shoulders. Clarity is slightly murky. Nose is quite complex and interesting and somewhat reminiscent, albeit not as pungent as Grandis Hydromelita - notes of balsamic vinegar, tannins and toasted oak. Taste is interesting - more balsamic notes, a hint of smoke and earth, fusel alcohol, lactic acid and tannins. Mouthfel is light in body and still with a great deal of acidity that dries the lips. There's also a mild residual ethanol burn at the back of the throat that lingers between quaffs. Overall, interesting and complex - I'd like to see what happens to this beer with a couple years on it.
