Now, we all know OEC is known for brewing some strange beers, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a beer that was aged in Absinthe barrels. And for that I’m excited. If anywhere else brewed this I might be nervous about the outcome, but I trust OEC to execute it artfully. Let’s dive right in
Pours an opaque pinkish orange with a finger of loose white head that quickly fades to a thin ring and leaves no lacing
The nose is wonderfully vibrant, but not as funky as I would’ve expected. I’m picking up on aromas of red wine vinegar, sharp oak, lemon juice, crabapple, black licorice, peppercorn, and wet hay
Man, this has a really nice pop to it in taste too. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting lemon juice, tannic red wine, absinthe, juniper berry, oxidized sherry, crabapple, light leather, and straw. The swallow brings notes of wet hay, lemon juice, absinthe, sharp oak, red wine vinegar, crabapple, peppercorn, and earthy wheat
A medium body pairs with moderate carbonation, resulting in a sharp and tart beer. Finishes bone dry and drinks remarkably lower than its abv
This is one hell of a beer. Quite unique and evolves throughout the experience. I’ll pick up more if I see it
