Our South Pacific Lager brewed using Maris Otter malt and hopped with New Zealand Nelson Sauvin hops. After the boil it rests in our copper coolship for 1 hour and is then transferred over our baudelot cooler. Nelson undergoes a cool fermentation using a German lager yeast. It is cellared for several months and finally dry hopped prior to release.

Had on tap. Pours clear, gold in color with one quarterinch head. Taste is white grape and cereal. Light body, slightly bitter, moderate carbonation. Delicious, how hoppy lagers should be done. Nice restraint.

Poured from a 16 oz. can. Has a golden color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is bursting with citrus. Taste is citrus, malts, light grapes, highly refreshing. Feels medium/full bodied in the mouth and overall is a very crushable beer that I should probably revisit during the summer.

This one pours a clear golden orange color, with a small head, and lots of lacing.
This smells like white grape, grassy hops, lemon rind, and citrus.
This is definitely a hoppy lager, but the nice maltiness and breadiness is still there, on top of a really tasty grape/citrus/lemon/spice/grass sort of hop character.
This is really drinkable, with a pleasant crisp drinkability, and a smooth bite on the finish.
OEC isn’t always very good at hoppy beers, but this one worked well in my eyes.

No can date
Pours a frothy foamy almost 1 finger head with moderate retention, mostly clear slight hazy golden straw color
Nose big Nelson punch, white grape skin musty winey, a bit of lemony notes, under that pilsner malt, straw, doughy malt, lemongrass
Taste brings more Nelson up front, white wine, lemon zest, a bit musty citrus and touch of berry, then more lager with pilsner malts, cereal, doughy, straw, soft lager, a bit of bitterness, then finishes dry with big spicy hop bitterness
Mouth is med to a bit lighter bod, med to a bit lighter carb
Overall well the Nelson is great, but the open fermented coolshipped lager was lost, Nelson is a strong hop despite that it has a lower alpha acid, so def dial that way back for the next round, or just make a general lager/ale that you don't mind being lost

Look: It pours golden and clear. It has a white head with very good head retention.
Smell: It has a resinous quality to it with peppery notes and some lemon well in the background.
Taste: The flavor is surprising compared to the aroma because it is sweeter than I expected. There are light tropical fruits with pineapple being in the forefront. It has some melon qualities with a bit of lemon.
Feel: It has a medium body with a some sweet aftertaste.
Overall, the aroma and flavors surprised me because they don't match. This is an excellent hoppy beer with plenty of hop flavors.

Served from the can in a Lagunitas mason jar.
Pours a clear brass-amber topped by a finger or so of lightly off-white foam. The nose comprises honeydew, grapefruit zest, light grass, honey, and a twinge of biscuit. The taste brings in more of the same, the biscuit and grass coming through more, the hint of white grape skins coming through from the distance, and a sense of sourdough pervading the aftertaste The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a fluid feel. A highly drinkable, rather enjoyable little IPL.

16oz can from Brewers Haven. Bright golden pour, light haze, thin creamy white head. Aroma is bready and malty, faint juicy citrusy notes. Taste is biscuity, sweet, oranges, lemons. Bursting with flavor. Really nice

another banger of a rustic and inventive lager from these guys, the beat goes on! so glad these are coming out to idaho, the price is even reasonable too! this is a cool mix of old world and new, love that its built on maris otter, which is fresh to me here, but then incorporates these sexy nelson hops, so its the best of both camps, not overly hoppy, still dosed like a european lager, just the varietal makes it distinct. more blonde than orange, but a little color to this from the pint can, creamy high and frothy white head with great retention and lace, looks awesome. the nose smells fresh to me, more herbal than i am used to from nelson too, the lager yeast is familiar from their other beers, distinctive with a little bit of wildness to it, short of funky of course, its not in the coolship long, but there is a ton of character and i love it. also the brightness and more familiar nelson properties are on display, green grape, pineapple, fleshy coconut, and lemongrass, yum. the flavor is all of this, love this lager yeast complexion with these hops, its grounded in german tradition, definitely the decoction mash nuance on display, but the hops take it into the modern realm, so informed and intentional and good, i love this. the hops are not overdone, and i like that a little bitterness creeps in. the texture is effervescent and fuller feeling but dry and fluffy too, satisfying and hearty without being heavy. a very high quality brew, not way way different from citrango and galaxia, but i am loving what these guys are doing with these...

Flavor is an interesting mix of cornbread and green melon. Plus pencil shavings and old orange. Very green vegetal finish with the oddest resiny note. A true oddity in hop flavors for those who seek something new. I'm not sure that I like it, but it's something to puzzle over. From the 16 oz can purchased at Bine & Vine. No apparent date.

A: The beer is slightly hazy yellow in color and has a moderate amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a quarter finger high white head that left a collar around the edge and lots of lacing down the sides of the glass.
S: Moderate aromas of green grape are present in the nose along with notes of gooseberries.
T: The taste follows the smell but has a bit stronger flavors of gooseberries.
M: It feels medium-bodied and clean on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: I found this IPL to be quite enjoyable and unique, not only because it was a lager instead of an IPA, but the Nelson hops imparted nice aromas and flavors of green grape instead of predominantly being gooseberry.
