City of Sails is a South Pacific style Pils brewed with Pilsner malt and a traditional step infusion mash. During the boil it is hopped exclusively with New Zealand Taiheke hops. After the boil it rests in our copper coolship for 1 hour and is then transferred over our baudelot cooler. During the cool open fermentation using a classic Czech Pilsner yeast it is hopped one more time. Finally it is cellared cold for several months prior to packaging.

This one pours a golden-ish yellow color, with a small head, and lots of lacing.
This smells like slightly sweet bready malt, grapefruit, and lemon/lime.
This is just a bit too sweet as pilsners go for me – I’m not sure if it’s the malt character or the New Zealand hops, but it’s just doesn’t quite spin the dial for me. It’s very bready, with a sweet pink grapefruit and citrusy lemon/lime thing going.
This is light bodied, relatively clean, but sweet, with a good drinkability.
This isn’t OEC’s best work. It’s not bad by any means, but it’s just a little uninspiring.

No can date
Pours a foamy fluffy almost 1 finger head with moderate retention, nice soapy lacing, semi hzy golden color
Nose fresh floral fruity hops up front, a little dank note and herbal tea like, mild sweet golden malt, grainy cereal, fruity pebbles and touch of citrus lemony notes, some spices
Taste brings pilsner malt up front, grainy cereal and bready straw, soft lager, with hops kicking in to a med bitterness, starting floral and a bit herbal, fruity citrusy and grassy, then getting quite spicy late, dry finish with big spicy hop bitterness lingering
Mouth is med to a bit lighter bod, soft lager, higher frothy distracting carb
Overall it's OK, hops really dominate and kinda take over most of the lager notes, it does hit the Czech pilsner level of bitterness but loses any semblance of balance since the hops are different, but in the end a decent beer

Sometimes after a long, hot day, you just need a crisp, refreshing Pilsner. This one from OEC oughta do the trick, though with a touch of OEC weirdness. The weirdness this time is only that it is coolshipped and open fermented, which is pretty tame compared to some of their other offerings. Let’s get into it
Pours a cloudy pale yellow with 2 fingers of creamy off white head that fades to a thin cap and leaves minimal lacing
Oh man, this is really heavy on the spicy hops in the nose. I’m picking up on aromas of herbal hops, white pepper, honey, eucalyptus, pithy lemon, crackery malt, and light toasted grain
The taste is nice and vibrant, not as hoppy as the aroma would lead you to believe. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting lemon zest, crackery malt, white pepper, toasted grain, orange zest, floral hops, and a touch of honey. The swallow brings notes of toasted grain, herbal hops, honey, white pepper, and orange zest
A light medium body pairs with moderate carbonation, resulting in a zesty and sharp beer. Finishes neutral but dries over time
It definitely has a touch of OEC funk, but stays true to style for the most part. Solid stuff

16 oz. can. Clear golden. Smells of honey, sweet doughy bread, cracker malt, light lemon, and light spicy hops. Tastes lemony up front with honey and floral notes, lightly sweet with bread and biscuit malt. Spicy bitter back end. Clean, pleasant. Good stuff.

Fine, soft golden hued body; excellent carbonation; thick, billowy head, white and semi-creamy. Decent nose; a bit floral, a tad fruity; some cereal grain notes. Great flavor; mild grain tastes; well-balanced hop bitterness; earthy. Light to moderate heaviness; lager smooth feel; sublime residual sugars coat the palate; light sweetness yet has an overall light dryness.
I see (per the can label) the South Pacific pilsner idea comes from the use of New Zealand Taiheke hops. Well, they brewed up a pretty decent pilsner.
Pouring temperature: 43 °F; canning info: unavailable

16oz can from Tavour. Pale, clear golden pour with a lasting white frothy head. Grainy, grassy aroma, crisp, light hop presence. Sweet, grainy taste, light hop bitterness, notes of lemon. Smooth and super tasty.
