I’ve yet to try anything from OEC’s Experimentalis series, but this seems like a perfect one to start with. It’s quite the odd choice of oak, but I’m down for something unique. Using sweeter meyer lemons also seems like it will provide a good balance. Let’s pop this bad boy open and see what it has to offer
Pours a cloudy orange gold with 2 fingers of soapy off white head that fades to a cap and leaves minimal lacing
Oh man, this has quite the earthy funk in the nose, almost leaning into Saison territory. I’m picking up on aromas of lemon juice, earthy wheat, sharp oak, wildflower honey, bready malt, floral hops, wet hay, grass, and black pepper
The focus shifts to the lemon in taste, tart and mostly clean with a late developing funk that keeps things interesting. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting lemon zest, biscuity malt, smooth oak, wildflower honey, vanilla, orange juice, tannic white wine, and wet hay. The swallow brings notes of lemon juice, orange zest, crackery malt, floral hops, custard, wildflower honey, sharp oak, wet hay, and light leather
A medium body pairs with gentle tingling carbonation, resulting in a slick yet sharp beer. Finishes bone dry and refreshing
This one is really damn good. I need to try some of the other beers in this series next
