Very dark if not pitch black with a creamy tan head. Good head retention. Some lacing.
Sweet malt with bitter chocolate and a hint of nuts. Good aroma on the whole.
A malty smooth stout with a nice nuttiness and a touch of fruity character.
Medium-full body with moderate carbonation. Fine.
A decent stout which fails to excite but it isn't bad.

Another one shared with okcomputer as we made room for more beer in his cellar. Poured into goblet. Poured black with traces of dark brown around the edges. There was just a thin cap of light brown head that had low retention and lacing.
The aroma was typical for a solid stout, rich deep malts, some grain and a trace of hops. What was atypical was a smoke scent. Not as strong as if this were a smoke beer, but certainly noticeable. The flavors were also fairly typical, grain, malt, a bit of sweetness, a kiss of hops and , again atypically, a bit of smoke.
The body was much thinner than expected for the style, was not sticky at all and had no real finish. Drinkability was OK, not bad, not great.
Overall, an OK brew that I'm glad I got a chance to try. It's been awhile since I've had Shakespeare Stout, but I don't remember it being smoky at all, so maybe these aren't fully identical brews.

Didn't get much head going here on top of the heavy black mass. Smell is deep, spicy roasted grains and...deep. A little sweet.
Taste is thick and complex, spices and lightly sweet roasted grains with a lasting baking chocolate dryness.
Mouthfeel is creamy, spreading out the bitterness towards the end. Smooth roasted malts.
Heavy in the stomach, couldn't have TOO many of these in a sitting.
This is apparently the same beer as Shakespeare Stout, only bottled for the Japanese market! Interesting.
