I was absolutely blown away when I had this beer for the first time. Ezo beer is brewed by Rogue in Oregon and then imported to Japan, some of the beers are the same Rogue beers with new names and some are exclusive to Japan. This beer is exclusive to Japan, although the Rogue taphouse in San Fransisco has a very limited amount of cases they are selling temporarily.

The first thing you notice about this beer is how dark it pours. You can not see through it. The head looks like a hot chocolate, a nice medium brown color and enough to give a good covering on top of the beer.

The smell really surprised me because it smells like real, honest to god chocolate, not fake chocolate flavor. There is also a nice toasty smell from the malt.

The taste is out of this world. It comes on nice and smooth and toasted, with hints of a dark coffee and then a perfect chocolate taste. It tastes like they just melted a high quality chocolate bar into the beer. It is not too sweet at all and not overwhelming, it just blends in perfectly with the nice toasty stout. Never ever do you taste the 10% ABV, not even a hint.

The mouthfeel is wonderful. It has a full velvety body with the richness of the chocolate without any overbearing sweetness.

I have never had a chocolate stout that had such pure chocolate flavor, nor a beer at 10% ABV that had no flavor of the strength. An incredible and inventive beer that really goes above and beyond the other offerings like it. If it wasn't so rare I would pour it over ice cream and make a stout float with this one.

Served on tap at Vivo! in Ikebukuro, Tokyo, Japan in a UK pint glass. Not my smartest choice as the third UK pint of the night. Absolutely defeated me. 10% in a UK pint. While being absolutely delicious. Such rich chocolate flavor alongside such solid stout texture. Highhhhly recommended. Wow. I'm drunk.
