A 500ml bottle with no visible BB date. Acquired some time back from the York Beer & Wine shop. An IPA from a young brewery in Middlesbrough - hopped with Cluster, Cascade and Columbus.
A: Poured into a tulip pint glass. Bottle conditioned and very lively - difficult to pour. A very hazy orange-amber hue with tons of fine sediment and intense carbonation. Produces a massive head of creamy white foam with superb stability; this slowly reduces to a thick surface layer. Lovely lacing.
S: Aroma of subtle fruity hops with hints of earthy yeast, grass/hay, vague citrus, mild grainy malt and faint stewed leaves.
T: Tastes of mild fruity hops with a yeasty character and a dry finish. Notes of earthy yeast, grass/hay, a hint of citrus, grainy malt, stewed leaves and a twinge of harsh cardboard. A touch of green apples and solvent in the background. Highly attenuated, followed by a restrained bitterness upon swallowing.
M: Mouthfeel is smooth, tingly and dry, with spritzy carbonation and decent body. Slight hop oils add something extra. Pretty astringent, accompanied by an aftertaste of earthy yeast, leafy hop bitterness and acrid cardboard.
O: So-so; not a great brew but I reckon it's a bit old. Unfortunately I can't see any date on the bottle so it's hard to know. Doesn't look brilliant - absolutely swimming with yeast and highly carbonated. The aroma and flavour are lacklustre; very yeasty with subdued hop notes. Body is OK. Can't say it blew me away, but perhaps I should resample again if I have the chance.
