750ml bottle. Label identifies this as a product made during 2017.
Very dark brown body, with a back lit edge of medium brown. Tan head which stays around as a partial cap and ring. Left behind are a few scattered spots of lacing, but most slides back down into body.
Aroma is roasted malts, chocolate, sweet maple and vanilla, and a whiff of bourbon barrel.
Taste is roasted malts, with a sweet flavor from the maple and the vanilla from the bourbon barrel. Lots of accompanying milk chocolate. Definitely expresses the slight burn of the higher ABV%, and the underlying flavor of oak bourbon barrel.
Thinner mouth feel. Has a thin syrup texture. Good carbonation.
Lots of maple and bourbon barrel booziness, with a higher alcohol level.

Received from @vidblain in a BIF box. Poured from a 750 ML bottle into a tulip glass. It pours nearly black with dark mahogany hues at the top of the glass when held to the light. The thin, khaki-colored head dissipated quickly leaving a thin film of lacing. Its aromatic aroma features maple syrup, roasted malt, toffee, vanilla, and nuts. It's a sweet Porter and opens with maple syrup and milk chocolate, along with notes of freshly-brewed coffee, vanilla, and earthy, nutty char. There is also a distinct taste of bourbon. It finishes with a slight hop bitterness. The mouth feel is typical of a Porter - maybe a little thin, with light carbonation, and a warming 12% ABV that isn't apparent at first but catches up with you. This is a sipper! Overall, Default is a flavorful, and fairly strong American Porter, that a a pleasure to drink. Thank you, @vidblain for the opportunity to enjoy it!

Passed on this many times @ $20/bottle, but snapped it up on a dusty clearance shelf for $10.99. 750ML bottle split with my wife, with “Default 2017” on the label. I’m going to take that as its provenance.
Pour: black. Nose: as advertised. Rich maple, whiskey. Sweet. I like.
Default is a simple beast. Whiskey, oak, & maple with a touch of wood smoke leaked into the cauldron, finishing with malt sweetness. Strangely, feels more like a porter in the mouth, thinner despite the coma-inducing ABV. Correspondingly easy to drink.
Simple as a single celled organism, but them little bastards started life as we know it, right? I think. I’m a Liberal Arts major, so I really don’t have any idea. Very good brew.

Bought this one about six month ago. Pours a thin but black color with a tan head. Smell has bourbon, maple and roasted malt. Taste is sweet with maple, its complimented by the barrel and malts. A soft mouth feel with sweet maple and barrel . A very good Imperial porter , with maple, the BA was spot on. A pricey bottle i would not buy again thou, Worth a try to share.
