$10.95 CDN from the local LCBO. Good to see Side Launch branching out some more. Served cold-ish into a chalice.
Appearance - Clear light amber colored beer. Plenty of bubbles, impressive two fingers of head, but recedes quickly.
Smell - Candi sugar, hints of banana and fruit, some alcohol. Yeast. Classic tripel combo but not executed as well as the best.
Taste - Like the nose with a little too much sweetness. Tripels naturally are a balance between sweet and bitter, but this leans just a bit too much to one side. A little fruit, booze noticeable.
Mouthfeel - Medium bodied, a little sticky and heavier handed. Still nice enough.
Overall - A decent enough tripel, not quite worth the cost and obviously trying to match the brewers at Unibroue, Ommegang et al. and pretty much a good chunk of Belgium is a tall task. Worth a try from this solid brewery.
